How to reduce emissions of hazardous carbon dioxide

On average each Swede is responsible for emitting about 6,000 kg carbon dioxide each year. In order to avoid a disaster scientists say that on a long term basis the world must reduce their emissions to about 2,000 kg per person and year. Here are theideas that will help you reduce your weight wisely. Start now and both the climate and your wallet will feel better. Calculate your own carbon footprint at www.miljo.goteborg.se
  • Change to low energy light bulbs – and cut 250 kg (nine bulbs).
  • Install low-flowing shower heads and sink spigots in your bathroom and kitchen – and reduce by 250 kg.
  • Ensure good ventilation behind the fridge and freezer – and loose 250 kg.
  • Use the car in a climate smart way: 1,2000 kilometres less on gasoline cuts 250 kg, a speed reduction from 100 to 90 km/h takes away 250 kg (after 6,000 km) and ecodriving will reduce a further 250 kg (after 8,000 km, if your car consumes 0.8 l per 10 km).
  • Lower indoor temperature by two degrees - off go 140 kg.
  • Change two flights between Göteborg – Stockholm to train – and reduce a further 200 kg.
  • Change the two-stroke engine in the boat to four-stroke – and take away 200 kg (after 30 hours' driving).
  • Skip 25 plastic PET bottles, drink water directly from the tap instead – and flush 2 kg.
  • Eat domestic apples instead of imported ones – and save 1 kg per 4.5 kg apples, half the average Swede's yearly consumption.
